WA Experts: this is our story
Founded in 2014, WA Experts 4WD rental Perth offers travellers all the freedom to customise their trip, just the way they like it. We are not just another car-rental business and we look forward to helping you make your trip unforgettable!
Meet the WA expert
Iwan Boskamp is the owner of WA Experts. Born in Western Australia, Iwan grew up in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. After spending many holidays in Australia, he returned for good to Perth in 2010. WA was the logical choice as Iwan has lots of friends and family here.
Having travelled extensively throughout Western Australia, the Northern Territory and South Australia, Iwan finds no greater pleasure than sharing his knowledge and experience before sending customers on their way. We are always happy to explain differences in road road rules for travellers who are visiting Australia for the first time. We can assist in planning and organising your trip from door to door, or we can just supply you with a rental car and some sound advice.
Let us inspire you
It’s pretty hard to choose, but Iwan’s favourite place in WA is probably Red Bluff at Quobba Station.
“What I love most about Western Australia is the emptiness, the weather, the friendly people, the wild nature and animals in it: kangaroos, emus, goannas and beautiful birds. Also, fishing at remote locations, the opportunity to escape the city and feeling the connection with the ancient land and aboriginal culture while being all alone… And the way of life – no worries mate.”
WA Experts tips: better safe than sorry
Travelling through Australia can be hazardous at times. Challenging terrains, extreme weather conditions and isolation from services and the company of others. Travellers must be well-prepared and equipped to cope with unexpected delays and emergency situations. Here’s a list of Iwans tips to ensure that your WA experience is an enjoyable and positively unforgettable journey.
Road safety first
A driving holiday in one of the world’s largest states can involve long distances, varied conditions and large, very long trucks. These ‘road trains’ can be up to 53.5 meters in length and need thorough consideration before attempting to overtake.
For all you mainland Europeans, Aussies drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. Before you get behind the wheel, familiarise yourself with the road rules in Australia. Also, there are strict laws regarding alcohol consumption in WA. Don’t drink and drive.
Iwan’s advise to travellers about to drive off into the sunset with one of his Troopies:
“Be safe, there are kangaroos on the road at dusk and dawn, and they will not always move out of the way. Drive at a reduced speed and stay awake, driving is part of the enjoyment of travelling in Australia.”
In case of emergency
Dial 000 (triple zero) for ambulance, police and fire emergency services.
Should you travel WA during bush fire season, prepare yourself and stay informed. Ask us about do’s and don’ts. More about the Fire and Emergency Services
Did you know Perth is the Australia’s sunniest city? You’re going to spend a lot of time outdoors. Always apply sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and make sure to drink plenty of water. ‘Slip! Slop! Slap!’
Swimming and surfing safely
Can you imagine? WA has about 12,000 kilometres of beautiful coastline. Surf and marine conditions can vary significantly. So always read safety signs, talk to locals and swim between the red and yellow Lifesaving flags.
Fishing is a very popular pastime in Western Australia, but it can also be dangerous. It’s important to keep informed about changing weather and wave conditions in the area you are planning to fish and what safety gear is required.
Let’s protect our environment
WA has precious and uniquely biodiverse environments. Let’s respect our natural and cultural heritage and help preserve it for other travellers and future generations to enjoy. More about Leave no trace
Don’t let all these rules scare you… You wouldn’t want to miss out on all the awesome sceneries and wonderful and fun things to explore. Iwan can’t wait to tell you all about it.
